  3. every year when french open starts, it will rain for 1st 3-4 days..2nd week will be dry..this pattern does not fail even a single year..but not happening in chennai..y?

    • Even seasonal rains have failed in Chennai, so we cannot expect it to rain at this time of the year.

The convection is getting moved from West to East as per 500 HPA trough.
Now Bangalore is on the strong divergence side of the trough and you are not at the coast line.
But in Chennai most of the time the lower level wind is from E and SE from Jan to June, hence it does not get the moist air and it does not allow the air to raise, rather it gets dry air from sea. This is the reason even now Chennai not getting benefitted.

I still say that till 15th we can wait for the rains. 50/50..

  4. A view towards north from gummidipoondi…near pulicot…

    pic taken by ………atchu…………

  5. As per the reports in The Asian Age, the clash between RCB and
SRH at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru which is scheduled to take place
on April 13th is under rain threat and there are high possibilities
that it might turn out to be a wash-out.

  6. Massive rain in coimbatore for 2 hours not stop..the rain was wide spread for whole city.happy to c such a wounderful site aftr long time.

    • Krish, enjoyed the rains when I was at RS puram area. Felt. It was moderate and steady showers close to one hour there.

  7. Watch the TS over Pulicat..its clearly descending down..good chances for Northern Parts of Chennai

    • No lakshminaraya ….
yesterday 9 people died in rayalaseema and thousands of crore loss to crops

      • Seen many big water tanks are dried for many years….the agricultural activiTies stopped farmers stared bankrupt otherwise led a dignified life…they started moving Bangalore as construction workers….

      • rayalaseema is always like that….especially the worst place anantapur……the place lying in rain shadow region…it wont get rains from both sw and ne monsoons……but these thunderstorms will come and still damage the area….

  8. Just had a look at the radar animation, those intense TS seems to be behaving in a crazy manner and almost moving clockwise as it is located just NW of Madras. Though one gets a feeling it’s descending down, I’m afraid it may just skirt Avadi or Red Hills area and turn SW. Am I right in my observation?

  9. Sky conditions now over NW,SW and South of Chennai.
Low Clouds Moving from East to west.

  10. Look at this pic, two air masses are colliding over Central TN and SI KTK, this is why TS not coming to Chennai and Bangalore got heavy rains. All convective activities pushed towards interior land.

    Please ignore, wrong image pasted…

  11. a massive thunderstorm approaching towards chennai. within one hour it has to strike. it has a good length and breadth very strong also. if it moves quick we will certainly get not less than 4 to 5 centimeters of rain. as it moves east, sea breeze can help further.

  12. Tday banglore and cbe got battered.bad luck for chennai as most of thundrstroms went north of chennai.dont loose hope guys.may b tomrw might b u guys day :).

  13. Pic of rain today evening from office balcony. Through glass as the balcony was full of water

      • Vidyaranyapura and GKVK seems to have got battered today too.. yday Vidyaranyapura got 5cm and GKVK got 4cm while my RG recorded 22mm only.. Today Vidyaranyapura has got 118mm per hour rain rate at 3:45pm..

      • Wow 5cm !!!..that’s great..Still 2 days left from this spell.. let’s see how much we get..

    • Partha,

Momentary T’storm movements cannot be said from this , and of course this is the geopotential height , and this can give an idea of average synoptic scale details for a 24 hr period , microscale and mesoscale patterns are difficult to be inferred out from this …..

  14. Haven’t seen such a beautiful sky in a long long time 🙂 Ignore the thunderstorms, look to your south and see an awesome sunlit sky with cirrus, cirrostratus, lots of altostratus and cumulus 😀

  15. Very disappointed to see clouds not coming to south chennai, I know that our chances are bleak for us but anyhow very sad

  16. How can chennai miss such a strng TS…miserable,..chennai needs to do something to pull it in…its like missing a juicy full toss in slog overs…
