A weak cyclonic circulation at 700 HPA level over South Bay has triggered those convective clouds, this will sustain for next 48 hours, no big development expected….
Its pouring down in Manyata Tech Park too from the past 10 mins or so 🙂

The convection is getting moved from West to East as per 500 HPA trough.
Now Bangalore is on the strong divergence side of the trough and you are not at the coast line.
But in Chennai most of the time the lower level wind is from E and SE from Jan to June, hence it does not get the moist air and it does not allow the air to raise, rather it gets dry air from sea. This is the reason even now Chennai not getting benefitted.
I still say that till 15th we can wait for the rains. 50/50..

Just had a look at the radar animation, those intense TS seems to be behaving in a crazy manner and almost moving clockwise as it is located just NW of Madras. Though one gets a feeling it’s descending down, I’m afraid it may just skirt Avadi or Red Hills area and turn SW. Am I right in my observation?
Look at this pic, two air masses are colliding over Central TN and SI KTK, this is why TS not coming to Chennai and Bangalore got heavy rains. All convective activities pushed towards interior land.
East needs one more spell. This is not enough to compensate

a massive thunderstorm approaching towards chennai. within one hour it has to strike. it has a good length and breadth very strong also. if it moves quick we will certainly get not less than 4 to 5 centimeters of rain. as it moves east, sea breeze can help further.

Vidyaranyapura and GKVK seems to have got battered today too.. yday Vidyaranyapura got 5cm and GKVK got 4cm while my RG recorded 22mm only.. Today Vidyaranyapura has got 118mm per hour rain rate at 3:45pm..

dont compare animation with vvp, it is totally different.
VVP is like Audio, Animation is like Video.
VVP is for reading winds only in chennai, whereas animation shows the entire surroundings and the movements around chennai.

Momentary T’storm movements cannot be said from this , and of course this is the geopotential height , and this can give an idea of average synoptic scale details for a 24 hr period , microscale and mesoscale patterns are difficult to be inferred out from this …..
Haven’t seen such a beautiful sky in a long long time 🙂 Ignore the thunderstorms, look to your south and see an awesome sunlit sky with cirrus, cirrostratus, lots of altostratus and cumulus 😀
