  9. Watching Milos and Lopez match in the Aussie open. There are only 2 line judges instead if normal 3. The guy from one of the side serves as a service judge. Never seen this before in a grand slam. Looks like one of the service line judge got hit by a booming service during Novak’s match yesterday.

  12. Match ends as no result. India gets 2 points and now have to go beat england to qualify. It’s as simple as that.
    Many will like today’s result, but it’s actually a bad one for team india. Goal should not be to reach the finals, but to win the world cup. By not playing today India missed out on much needed practice. Still lots of questions regarding team composition. Is there enough time for Players to come back to form?

    • Title defence is not easy kea .. they won the world cup but did not establish supremacy between the years 2011 to 2015.. too much of inconsistency .. the only reason why India won 2011 world cup is bcoz it was played in home soil.. apart from that we had one good champions trophy performance .. I am still wondering how they dominated that tournament .. it was out from the blue. Something similar to that kind will only see India home in this world cup.. otherwise it’s a walk in the park for Australia ..

      • Dont count of india’s performance in wc 2011, no other team had won WC in home soil, it also has huge home pressure,let’s see how Australia uses home advantage than previous WC chances, can they do it?

      • I am not counting out India’s performance .. it was extraordinary effort no doubt.. they were consistent enough between 2007 and 2011.. that’s WY they were able to get through the line .. but the phase between 2011 to 2015 has not been good .. so I am trying to tell that chances r less.. don’t have too much of expectations .. we may end up on a disappointing note

  26. Niko, first South Pacific tropical cyclone this season

    On 20 January, an area of low pressure near Tahiti developed to tropical cyclone strength and tracked south across French Polynesia. Tropical cyclone Niko was not especially strong nor did the centre of the storm pass over any islands, but it caused flooding and gale force winds over Tahiti from the storm’s outer rain bands.

    Niko was unusual because tropical cyclones occur less frequently over the southeast Pacific compared with the southwest Pacific and usually only develop in El Niño years when sea surface temperatures in the region are warmer than normal. Sea surface temperatures across the tropical eastern Pacific Ocean, including the waters surrounding Tahiti, have been warmer than normal for several months and likely contributed to the cyclone’s development.     It is also likely that the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) contributed to the favourable conditions for tropical cyclone Niko’s development. Over the past week the MJO has been present, but weak, over the tropical Pacific Ocean. This placed the MJO in a location favourable for enhanced convection over the southeast Pacific.

    The MJO is forecast to remain subdued for the coming week and is not expected to be a major influence on tropical weather.

  34. Some physical observations related to short term track prediction of Tropical Cyclones ,,,,

    1)TC s do not move in the direction of the cumulonimbus free quadrant of the system’s field.
    2)When the translation speed of a Cyclone gets reduced to 10 kmph or lesser than that , it is an indication of some major track changes that is likely to occur.
    3)Direction of moisture movement around a system could indicate the storm’s movement for the next 6 to 12 hours.
    4)When a TC’s LLCC falls to the right of a Trough Axis, NNE or NE/ENE re curvature has a higher probability.
    5)When a Trough is seen located to the ENE/NNE of the system LLCC..the translation speed could likely pick up nos.
    6)When a system falls on the equator-side of a ridge , dry air has a relatively lesser chance to affect the system.
    7)One of the confused states of steering winds occur, when LLCC is under the ridge ..beneath
    8)Cyclones that form in April/May period in BOB , tend to move N wards , under the action of some mid to upper Tropospheric Trough or ridge located to the E/ENE/ESE of LLCC.

    On May 17, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) upgraded an area of low pressure to a depression, giving it the designation “BOB 01”.[2] At that time, the depression was located approximately 930 km (580 mi) east-southeast of Chennai, India.[3] Later that day, the IMD upgraded Depression BOB 01 to a deep depression.[4] That evening, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) designated the system as Tropical Cyclone 01B.[5] The next morning, the deep depression strengthened further and was upgraded to a cyclonic storm and named “Laila” by the IMD.[6] The storm continued to grow and became a severe cyclonic storm by May 19, it was given a Category 1 tropical cyclone status by the JTWC. Later the same day, it started weakening. On May 21, Laila dissipated completely.

    The storm made landfall near Bapatla, Guntur District as a tropical storm between 1100 UTC—1200 UTC on May 20.[7]

    A powerful blizzard struck Boston and surrounding New England on Tuesday, leaving some 4.5 million people grappling with as much as three feet of snow and coastal flooding but sparing New York City residents who had braced for a significant blast.

    Snow was forecast to keep falling into early Wednesday in eastern New England, possibly setting a record snowfall in Boston. At Logan International Airport, 23.3 inches (59.2 cm) of snow was on the ground early evening, swept higher in parts by strong winds.

    “There are drifts now of four, five and six feet in some places,” Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker said. “This is clearly a very big storm for most of Massachusetts.” A statewide travel ban was scheduled to be lifted at midnight but Massachusetts residents were urged to stay off the roads if possible.

    Boston-area trains, buses and subways were set to resume normal service on Wednesday but delays were predicted for the morning commute. The resort island of Nantucket was particularly hard-hit by power outages, and most homes and businesses had no electricity, the governor said.

    Icy flooding closed the island’s downtown waterfront, white-out conditions forced some roads to be shut down and ferry and plane service was cancelled, according to local reports.
    Storm-driven coastal flooding added to the state’s woes, as low-lying towns south of Boston grappled with rising water.

    High tides breached a seawall in Marshfield, about 30 miles (50 km) south of Boston, damaging 11 homes, several of which were condemned, police said. Police urged residents to evacuate.
    Denise Gorham, 57, said she watched a heavy wooden shed filled with window air conditioners float away on waters that surrounded the house after the breach.

    “It’s been horrible. I’ve been here 12 years and we’ve weathered every single storm. It was just like the ocean was on the street itself,” said Gorham, a writer, who was trying to keep warm over her fireplace after the power went out.
