Rainy Week ahead for South Peninsular/North/NE parts of India

A Weak Low Pressure Area (LPA) over North-Central India and its associated mid troposphere circulation is seeding rains over parts of Madhya Pradesh & UP, Another upper air circulation in the form of a Western Disturbance (WD) in the mid latitude is also causing rainfall in the extreme north western parts of the country. Interaction of this WD with the monsoon trough is preparing the Himalayan foothills to come under a heavy rainfall belt. Meanwhile two strong typhoons are expected in the Western Pacific in the coming days. It is still not clear whether this will impact our monsoon rains. Numerical Weather Models show Monsoon Intraseasonal oscillation wave taking shape in the Equatorial Indian Ocean is propagating slowly Northwards through the South Indian states. Expect the Southern Peninsula to see some action in the coming week. Increase in rainfall likely over parts of TN.
Chennai will see a hot day and expect max temp to touch 36-37c. Evening thunderstorms possible in one or two places around the city

Coimbatore will host a warm & partly cloudy conditions in the day time with temperature around 31-32C. Thundershowers are likely by late evening.

Madurai will touch a max temp 37-38c. Lookout for evening thundershowers in one or two places around the city.

  13. IMD Rainfall Update

    Tiruvannamalai (Tiruvannamalai Dist)

Tiruvadanai (Ramanathapuram Dist), Sathanur Dam (Tiruvannamalai Dist)

    8 each

Tirukoilur (Villupuram Dist), Thirukoilur arg (Villupuram Dist), Chettikulam (Perambalur Dist), Vilupuram (Villupuram Dist), Harur (Dharmapuri Dist)

    7 each

    • Usually Harur used to top the list during the onset of SWM. But this year it missed. Seeing harur for the first time in this SWM.

      • I cannot forget Harur in my life time as my ex HR, a very bubbly young man from Harur died in a tragic road accident in chennai just after one month of getting married last year.

      • see the link with tamil. varsham is the sanskrit word for mazhai. so we can write , mazhai inimel perugi varum

      • i know Varsham is rain . in 2005 that movie came in Telugu as Varsham and Mazhai in Tamil

      • peruguthundi and perugi varum. what a fantastic connection between verbs and nouns in all south indian languages. This can be analysed if one removes sanskrit words.

      • Sunspot, have you observed the telegu’s difference in speaking from north telengana, Royalseema and andhra? Most telegu in TN follow only Royalseema style.

      • see rame, telugus and kannadigas may come and fight with us. As of now, only malayalees have acclimatized to that tamil origin of malayalam. Because it is very easy for them also to get it. But

      • Yeah .SUNSPOT in fact Tamil is one of the world’s most ancient languages among 5 or 6 others i think .

      • but rame, what is the use. our generation and the children are not understanding this immense value of tamil and speaking in a language which requires english words to talk and write. what a pathetic situation for classical tamil langauge.

      • sorry i have not gone deep in to variants of telugu in ersthwhile AP state. But telangana telugu looks to be influenced by urdu.

  14. Sunspot i agree with you about what you said about chennai lakes getting water feeded from veeranam . moreover last year or previous year they did transfer the excess floods in Cauvery to Chennai lakes via Veeranam .

    • this time also they can do that. delta can easily spare 5 TMC to fill chennai lakes as chennai is mini tamil nadu and mini india also in one sense.

    • Present pumping facility can only do a max of 80mld. And in no way, veeranam can solve chennai’s water problem with present pumping facility.

      • Rame, I have some classified documents with me which can’t be published. Veeranam is politically improved system. Period.

      • two routes are there . one is filling the veeranam and taking it from there . veeranam Total capacity is just 2 TMC approx
another route which was published in papers . i can not get the name

  15. Will ts popup out in interior as still drizzling band hanging around vellore so I think we may see very late ts

  16. TN will continue to get battered for next 4-5 days. Winds will shift to WSW with heavy storms lashing central and especially North Coastal TN and S AP on 20th and 21st

  17. ♦ The axis of monsoon trough passes through  Ferozepur, Karnal, Hardoi, Varanasi, Gaya,Santiniketan and thence eastwards to Manipur across Assam. Another branch of monsoon trough passes through Gaya, Bankura,
Diamond Harbour and thence southeastwards to northeast Bay of Bengal.

  18. Anna..Weather Communism’na ennana? 😀

Nammaloda average rainfall ku mela kedaikura rain drop adutha areavodathu

(The rain drop that we receive after getting our average quota belongs to another area)

  19. Wow.. suddenly the sky exploded into a field of dense cumulus with the sun playing hide and seek now.. West appears dark now.

  20. Omg, west getting darker and darker! Interiors could see damn intense thunderstorms very early in the afternoon
