The Low Pressure Area moving across Central India has got embedded into the Monsoon trough and has become a significant rain causing system for most parts of MP, UP, and W. Central India. This Synoptic circulation extending into mid troposphere has been dragging moist winds from Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea and is seen crafting rains for Central, North Central and Western parts of the country. In the west coast, the Off-shore trough is enhanced along Kerala and Karnataka coasts leading to increased rainfall along the coast for next 2 to 3 Days.
TN cities including Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai would see windy conditions and scattered rains in the coming days.
Chennai – Early morning windy conditions will give way to warm conditions by noon & max temp will settle around 36-37C. Scattered thunderstorms expected for suburbs and city.
Coimbatore will see a warm day. Temperature will see a max of 32c. Scattered rains are expected by evening.

Pondy 10 mm

Pondy only 10mm very sad that the intense TS went north of Pondy especially between Marakkanam and Pondy got pounded
A positive phase of the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) may have already begun to play out, according to the Applications Laboratory of Jamstec, the Japanese national weather forecaster. This is supposed to have a favourable impact on a concurrent Indian monsoon.
.However, it suggests that the favourable impact (enhanced rain) would be observed largely over the Bay of Bengal and the adjoining eastern parts of mainland India.August outlook for India pointed to excess rainfall for eastern parts of the country while the rest of the country is likely to witness below-normal rainfall.
As for September and October, the excess will be confined to peninsular India.
According to the seasonally averaged rainfall prediction, northern India, Japan, Indonesia, Australia (particularly the north) and northern Brazil will experience drier-than-normal conditions over the next couple of months.
On the other hand, most parts of the Bay of Bengal, Baja California and southern Brazil are likely to witness wetter-than-normal conditions, the Japanese forecaster said.

PJ,
I could see some kind of circulation just above 13N latitude at 500 HPA. Is that a UAC or something?
http://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/isobaric/500hPa/orthographic=-274.54,11.67,3000
Its not an uac, its not an defined circulation. See this tonight u can see the trough

means today we can expect something big???
yes. Big TS.
Its an trough extending from the other UAC
U mean the west coast trough extension?
yes and also trough extending from Odisha UAC. All are inter connected.
because of that UAC or Low, we will get rain from 29th to 31st, once it comes down in latitude over Odisha, the trough will extend up to NTN.
Oh yeah..That’s right.. I could see dips getting interconnected from 2 troughs.. one from north and other from west.. Got confused

Shri,
We should visit southern Tamil Nadu during rainy season, it is a delight to watch the nature’s beauty. I have done that during 2011 November the NEM was at peak. Till Villupuram it was dry, but after Panruti it is completely rainy. I went to Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Thirucherai, Nachiyarkovil, Thirunageswaram, Alangudi, Thirumanancheri, Mayiladuthurai and Mannargudi.
The stretch from Kumbakonam to Thanjavur was fully greenish, we went in Bus, the rain was pouring. As you said the canal was running in one side of a road, running along with road. That was a memorable trip i made. I have not seen Sun when i was in these places for 4-5 days time.
It was completely covered by clouds and it was wet wet and wet everywhere.
When i came back, after crossing Panruti, once again sun was shining bright, that is the time we started to see the Sun after 5 days time.
Partha…all the places you mentioned are not southern TN. That starts only after Trichy right upto Kumari. But it is a delight to travel to those places as you said.
whatever it may be, but that is the most fertile place in TN, they call these places as Chozha Nadu.
Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts are also quite fertile., especially the Thamirabarani basin, the river doesn’t dry up completely even in summer. And you have the Western Ghats as a backdrop.
i have walked many a time in the dry sands under sulochana mudaliar bridge
There is good flow in Kallidaikurichi, Ambasamudram etc., lower course probably remains dry…
its part of adj north and central tamilnadu…south places always ll be dry…ramanad, tuticorin, tirunelveli, sivagangai these are south tamilnadu
Kanyakumari dt comes first in greenery, one can witness greenery through out the year there, then Thanjavur dt, parts of Theni dt , parts of Tirunelveli dt, also gives visual treat

Feeling so happy to say that we are into temp decreasing season.

Do anyone know the status of mumbai .
it still exists
I mean the rainfall amount .
Still Kerala has to catch up more. Rainfall recorded 25% below normal.
but partha,
unfortunately the rainfall that happened in month of may is featured into SW figures…but reality they were getting widespread rains in may …
typo ** read as is not featured
In 24 hours, Mumbai gets two-thirds of month’s rain
———————–
Palghar town to the city’s north received in 15 hours more than half the 944mm deluge
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/mumbai/In-24-hours-Mumbai-gets-two-thirds-of-months-rain/articleshow/48167132.cms
530mm in 15 hours. But still Mumbai has recorded only around 120mm since monday
why if it rains anywhere its called Mumbai rains?
Last 2 days Mumbai didn’t even get much
Colaba got like 60 and Santacruz 100 in 2 days.
Palghar to Mumbai is hardly 100k.. Don’t take reading of colaba n scz alone most suburbs have received heavily…BTW its not abt the quantum..its abt the severe waterlogging n flooding u see in Mumbai for normal rains..u don’t see trains operated on flooded tracks every time in Chennai…tats is the main reason Mumbai is featured often in news channels ever more so after jul 26 2005
Yes.. exactly.. U don’t often see train services getting hit in chennai for 100mm rains.. But it happens almost everytime in mumbai
https://twitter.com/ETEnvironment
Pls dont compare Mumbai train services and Chennai Train Services
Why?
There local train runs full n every 2 mins.. with lakhs and lakhs people using their services daily.. so, maintaining them itself is a big task… There are more No. of local trains running there as compared to Chennai…so better not to compare.. Geographic structure of Mumbai is different from Chennai
True Economic Times has posted huge pictures showing virtually water stagnation everywhere and suburban trains getting delayed for over 30 minutes
Cola meteogram – 10 mm (upto 29/7)
Accu – 19 mm (upto 29/7)
Forea – 9 mm (upto 27/7)
WU – 8 mm (upto 29/7)
Hope we atleast get a combination of all 4
we may get Cola 10 mm today itself.
PJ says 110 mm till 31st. We will cross 200 mm for the month.

The mid level CC was existing in South Arabian Sea and Adjoining West Indian Ocean for the past 2 days, has dissipated today. Due to this CC, we had weaker TS for the past 2 days even though ER wave was supporting the East Coast of India.
Since this CC dissipated, we will see good TS today as the trough over East Coast of India is strengthening.

Ariyalur rainfall from TS is the second one to top with highest rainfall from TS after that Vandavasi 710mm in Aug 5, 1965.
Serious Deluge 300mm for just for 120mins.
RR could have recorded 300 – 500mm/hr in Ariyalur.
namaku avlo laam venam..15 cms vandha kooda podhum
RedHills,Chembarakkam,Poondi la 30 cms in 2 hours may be required…..inside the city 15cms could do!
Mouli it would have rained for more hours.
As per radar ir lasted only for 2 hrs after that drizzles
there is one more deluge waiting for mumbai and adj coastal belt on 29th!!!
when for chennai belt?
there is a very good probablity of rains for chennai starting from tday.. either tday or tmrw it could b very hvy
Today good chances for Chennai it could be widespread and heavy too
Ariyalur now has bought us pride. It has competed with SWM giants.
30CM during this time of the year is massive, no words to explain.
data needs to be validated though will wait fr few hrs to make sure 100%
dont you think that this is an indication of something BIG is on the way this year for TN as a whole???
hmm.. if this is right it surely is a freak event cant be predicted no way
How do you validate the IMD’s rainfall data?
imd validates its initial data frm computers n output given in daily report midday..we can look for various sources including nearby dam level rise status etc to get a better idea
Seems wrong to me!
I think that Ariyalur rainfall measurement might go for a toss.
Lets see the 02.30 PM update in IMD Chennai.
not mch evidence in media abt this massive rains..
it must be 3 CM i believe…
typo error.
Lol yes!
70cm in wandiwash is also a big thing needs to be validated… how come in august they get such amount of rainfall?
tat too in a one day!!
Was that 70 cms during the NEM?
Oh in August!
no..it was on 5th august ,1965
When it comes to Chennai Rainfall, IMD under reporting, but when it come to other places, they are over reporting…
indiaA 105 2 sorry bang

Yes. .heat is key for electric ts
Heat is key for any TS!

Yes Selva, poor atchu not getting this point

omg…ariyalur 300mm…

http://anonhq.com/oregon-rain-man-fined-sent-jail-collecting-rainwater/
Crazy?
Oregon has weird laws!
all crazy thing happens in US!
Sounds weird…
Sea breeze already sets in
that means the temp over sea is very very less, not heating up so much, the season change is confirmed.
the rains and cloud cover in the bay will also be the reason
Is this really possible……
Distance between Ariyalur and sedurai is nearly 16 km….
Ariyalur received 30cms rain while Sendurai received 5 cms rain
Another place Jayamkondan received 2 cms rain which is 50 km away from Ariyalur..
AWS reading of Ariyalur shows 159 mm..
How come IMD come with double the AWS reading
16 km is a very very big distance. Its possible
anyone from there?
Possible during cloudbursts.
reyy…its possible….distance btw nunga and meena is 12 km…many time massive difference ll be here
yes…..Because in Mumbai also once colaba got 6 cms and Santa cruz got 94 cms…
But AWS reading is misleading in this case
its vice versa, Colaba 6 and Stcz 94.
yes……
One of the readings is wrong, we don’t know which one is that.
Possible kiran.. April 15 Meena TS is a good example.. But i still doubt 30cm. Covective rains without any system!! I seriously doubt it.
Its very much possible if you look at what Nannilam received. News channels reported rain water intrusion in some areas. I also heard that a pond which was bone dry till yesterday filled up because of yesterday rains!
Today NBT says good rains waiting lets see.
what is NBT?
bat theory
What abt your ant theory??
Mettur getting filled up fast reached 90 feet as against 120ft
TS might popup anytime from now over NTN, keep watching.
Pop up west of Kallakurichi.
s near lower kalrayan foot hills 🙂
now uh???
Average swm rainfall for ariyalur is 330mm
No power around Mehta Nagar, few parts of Nelson manickam road since 10AM. Seems some transformer upgradation and power will be back only by 6PM. anyone else affected?
Today max
imd-35.8c
kea-36.9c
I expected Ariyalur, Tiruvarur to top charts and it happened as like that. There is a cloud of confusion about Ariyalur reading which I believe is very much possible especially if you had seen the RADAR yesterday by 6PM.
Expected or suspected? 300.mm I guess even many experts fails to predict rainfall rate
Lol. I expected just 10cms max. Not 30cms.
u dont believe one prominent weather model showed some deluge happening near delta three days back!!
Oh I see! Forecasts pitching for good rains today as well. I remember, somebody in blog was spot on regarding rainfall quantum yesterday.
Which one? Gfs or ecmwf?
what else it could be other than ECMWF..
OK…pls tell us 1 day before whenever you expect such things much earlier
we will inform only after confirmation
Even driest tondi got 35mm yesterday
Alert,
Once again South Chennai likely to be benefitted the most today.
Electric Storm expected to smash. GTS i would request you to be alert and observe and give me the updates, if you are at home today evening.
any reason you are ruling out Nunga?
today power cut in that area. so
But twist of fate is expected for s.chn
Yes sure
SWM active over south peninsula
Excellent rains from past 2 days in Burhabalanga ,Subarnarekha river basins in Odisha
Ariyalur 300 mm WTH OMG
I knew something was fishy when Ariyalur AWS showed 100 mm+ figures.. 30 cm is just OP
seems both ariyalur nanilam datas r faulty valparai tops with 7cm in tn as per midday report.. still regional report awaited to confirm
how can SRG and AWS can be faulty at same time.
Ariyalur and Nannilam don’t get mentioned usually as they are minor obsy. IMD Pune will confirm
No school? Susa following ameen
lol half a day
Omg…
I’m sick. That’s why i took leave
I know…tc
yes waiting for it susa.
Nannilam Agro has got 46 mm.
s not 140mm.. overreporting in both cases
SWM rainfall total of some places of Odisha from june 1 to july 21 (Normal SWM over most parts of Odisha)
Dunguripalli – 735 mm
Malkangiri – 725 mm
Balasore – 693 mm
Burla – 660 mm
Thakurmnda – 650 mm

Massive bubbly cumulus seen everywhere.. First time I’m seeing these in the noon itself in 2015. The last time I remember a day with strong cumulus and lots of congestus by noon itself during SWM was last year June!
yeah tat shows lot of instability prevailing at lower level.. early sea breeze too
Yep.. Really surprised at the timing.. Looks like September weather
Rains started in Chickmagulur Shivamogga, Dakshinkannada districts…..Deluge rains from evening ….
Rainfall in last 2 hours
Agumbe -16 mm
Karkala -12mm
Shirali 10 mm
Manki 10 mm
I dont think so. South Coastal Karnataka will take well deserved rest atleast till this weekend
Conditions also looking favourable….Already rains started in Dakshin kannada
What happened last Saturday was real West coast rains. Anything less than 10cms in West coast is not a point to ponder!
But AP is more worried about west coast rains….without rains there AP is no more…..Praying for Thungabhadra catchment areas to receive another wet spell with extremely heavy rains
