Depression forms in BOB

The depression over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal
moved westwards and lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 13th November 2013
near latitude 11.50N and longitude 86.00E, about 650 km east-southeast of Chennai,
730 km east-southeast of Nellore and 680 km east-northeast of Nagapattinam The
system would move westwards for some more time and then west-northwestwards,
intensify into a deep depression and cross north Tamil Nadu coast between
Nagapattinam and Chennai by 15th November night or morning of 16th November 2013.
Under its influence, rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall
at a few places and isolated extremely heavy rainfall (25 cm or more) would occur
over north coastal Tamil Nadu and south coastal Andhra Pradesh commencing from
15th November 2013.
Squally winds speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph would prevail
along and off north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coast
commencing from 15th November. Sea condition will be very rough along and off
these coasts from 15th November.
Fishermen out at sea off north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra
Pradesh coasts are advised to return to the coast.

    A new twist has come with the DD. How much rainfall will be added to the 40 mm until 8:30 am on Friday?

  2. @Kea, I think we will get some brief showers from later tonight/early tomorrow morning and will see about 10-15MM until Friday 8.30 AM..

  7. gfs again change their forecast…landfall not very near to Chennai as they predicted today morning….and the next system to make landfall at orissa and not at Chennai as forecasted today morn..

  8. SriramRangarajan The depression is to our SSE thats the reason the winds are flowing from WNW direction.  As the depression moves the wind patterns would change

    If u calculate the movement based on ridge, hpa, and whatever it may be…
    Current depression won’t travel to North 
    Landfall in between cuddallore and chennai only

    Don’t strict with any single model, refer other models also.
    for tracking the system best model is ECWMF 
    based on my experience 99% accuracy will be there in this model.
    Even Our IMD is also sepcifying the same.

  13. Current track shows that it will  corss between Chennai and nellore…Rain will start heavely  when the distance less than 300Km from seashore..

    Is it different models then? Like T574, T382, etc. Not able to find differences in resolution also.. 0.5X0.5 grid for both till 180 hours.

  18. There is some problem weather online with respect to gfs. Don’t luk at that for time being. Luk in the tropical tidbits site
