  12. Several residents struggled all through the night to drain out water from their homes in Nelamangala town after the canal of Amanikere breached and the water gushed into their homes on Saturday night.

More than 200 houses on M.G. Road, Gajaria layout, Anjaneyaswamy layout and other areas were flooded, and the authorities blamed incessant rains in the area for the breach. It was quite a task for the residents to safeguard their belongings even as the water-level rose.

“We could not sleep the whole night as a few of our neighbours saw snakes and other insects in the water that entered homes,” said a resident of Janapriya apartment.

  16. report of a possible lpa by rajesh sir:: – Some models are showing the formation of a Low in the Bay, off the Orissa coast. Models forecast the formation around the 20th of this month. Vagaries is non committal today, and reserves its view on the formation and date of formation till the proper formation parameters are clear. Proper announcement will be when and if situation warrants the formation.
Seeing the current withdrawal position, and high pressure forming over Central India, it may possible that any system in Bay may head towards Bangledesh.

  17. What does it mean when a barometer is rising or falling?
A barometer measures air pressure: A “rising” barometer indicates increasing air pressure; a “falling” barometer indicates decreasing air pressure.
In space, there is a nearly complete vacuum so the air pressure is zero. On Earth, because there are many miles of air molecules stacked up and exerting pressure due to the force of gravity, the pressure is about 14.7 pounds per square inch at sea level.
Pressure differences have a big effect on the weather, so if you know the current air pressure at your house, as well as the pressure trend, you are able to predict certain things about the weather. As a very loose rule, a high-pressure area will be clear, and a low-pressure area will be cloudy and rainy.
KEA SITE Current Pressure is 998.3 hPa

For next 48 hours: The sky condition would be partly cloudy. Rain or thundershowers may occur in some areas during evening or night. Maximum and minimum temperature would be around 35 and 26 degree Celsius respectively

  22. Cheeka and PJ, this is where VVP lets you down. See what is shows, almost non-existent as our friend Cheeka said, but storms are moving pretty fast from WSW to ENE. See radar animation of PPZ

  23. @ susa,

Only Pj can talk to IMD officials i think

    What can we do ?

Sometimes they are omitting some values and sometimes they are giving wrong figures.
These are all TYPING errors i think.

What’s ur take on this ?

  24. Maddy am fairly sure the storms are not moving, we will have our answers in an hour’s time. There is a specific reason for looking out for wind speed at about 1.8 km altitude as of now, PJ will possibly explain this better in person when we catch up. Till then we will call our truce and agree to disagree, to lighten up we can run a daily Cheeka vs Maddy challenge on from where the storms are coming and when would they come. What say?

  25. The only other reason for why the storms could move fast is, if they are moving fast, as I have not been able to track over a longer period of time since I was out on a meeting, the speeds at 1.5 kms altitude are quite high at 15 knots an hour. PJ can you confirm the validity of my reasoning.

  26. @sksvram

I’ll try to get it! But PJ will be able to do it much better. He is already compiling a list, but I’ll try to get it anyway 🙂

  27. Pretty strong winds from the West for the last 30 minutes or expect the storm to move towards the coast. Whether we get anything would depend on how much strength they retain. I have very little hopes

  28. Ehsan, please update this in the blog widget. Updated using user-id / email-id. The duplicates have been removed.
