  1. Sahakaranagar, north blore (my rg) has got 277mm this september plus 17mm on Aug 31st early mrng rains…. Its like almost 30cm in 12 days on continuous rain ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. @Shankar

    3 Hailstorms in May ?? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

The last hailstorm in Chennai was in September 6th 2011 ๐Ÿ˜ There was a hailstorm in Kanchipuram this April though.

  3. Rainfall breakup from my rg for n.blore for 2013 –
    Feb+Mar – 0.5cm
    Apr – 5cm
    May – 15.5cm
    Jun – 13cm
    Jul – 11cm
    Aug – 8cm
    Sep – 28cm

    • Sid, KR Puram figures are lower at 649 mm for the year so far
      Sep – 233 mm
      Aug – 71 mm
      July – 114 mm
June – 71 mm (max divergence is here)
      May – 122 mm
      April – 31 mm
      Jan/Feb/Mar – 3 mm

      • Are these figures from your rg? On June 1st most places in blore got good rain – city got 100mm, my rg got arnd 60mm.. did krpuram miss out on that?

  4. @Kea

    One slight correction.

In 2011, we had 2 100 mm+ days if we go by 12 am scale. One in August 24th and the other in October 25th! 107 mm on October 25th!

  5. @Karthik

Sure! I have the picture, but I won’t use mobile much nowadays since I have exams. I took it in my mobile. Will upload whenever possible!

  6. @praveen/Prabu – Check out page 8 from this link – http://dmc.kar.nic.in/data/district/ds01/ds3501.pdf
It shows cumulative rainfall for various hoblis of blore urban dist from June 1st to Sep 2nd. My rg readings are mostly matching with that of Yashavantpur rg – this rg is located in Abbigere which is some 4-5km West of my place. May be you can compare with KRPuram’s. Also as per ksndmc site, krpuram got arnd 40mm only on June 1st.

  7. @Sailu

Do visit Delhi in January!! If you go there at the right time, you might catch a severe cold front squall which will have hail too ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

      • When there is an LPA nearby, you won’t need heating. Thunderstorms will form, but they will last longer, be more widespread and be much more stronger if there insolation. But without heating itself, strong thunderstorms will form if the LPA is strong, but that is not the case this time

      • LPA based TS are more are less slow moving and sustains over a longer period of time and ensures a bountiful at the location it is. On the other hand heat based TS moves quicker and the period or duration of its spell will be shorter..Am i right Susa/Pradeep ?

    • Heating is not the only factor. The LPA itself will cause lifting in areas it is influencing, so thunderstorms will form there. What heating will do is make stronger and more widespread thunderstorms form. But on days without LPA influence, we need heating and moisture for storms. Moisture and heating are available in an LPA, so daytime heating is like a bonus ๐Ÿ˜€

    • Pj,
Childrens / Students, are start learning in that stage, once some thing are stored in their mind anything confidently about the subject, they prefer that whenever they want to answer, even if its not relevant.
Like that, SUSA is also learned about heating process, wherever / whatever the conditions, it may be, once sun come out, his mind is directly going to the heating process.
Slowly he will change according to the conditions.

@Susa, just i am explain what i had though about u, don’t mistake me.

  8. Good conditions for thunderstorms today, plenty of moisture and good heating along with LPA effect, but only problem is movement is from NNW or N ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

    • It might have been localized too. Does GKVK have a history of missing rains or under-reporting? If yes, then that is under-reporting only

      • Yes gkvk is under reporting …i hav said that many times…it shows very low values and times imd does not report itself

  9. There is a storm visible to the NW. It was NNW half an hour ago. I’m seeing this storm. So it is definitely moving SSW only

  10. @PJ

I said no rains overnight because there was a very widespread and severe thunderstorm the previous day. Since this LPA is quite weak, we need 1 day gap till something big forms again.

    • No, it is owned by a govt agricultural university.. Till 2011 it used to report fine as per me, only since last year some issue..

      • There will always be problems with non-IMD stations… But atleast we have our own rain gauges ๐Ÿ˜€ Is your manual or AWS?

      • Mine is manual, had got it through my cousin from USA and the company had claimed an error rate of +-5% only..

  11. ” Isolated heavy rain would occur over North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 48 hours.

OUTLOOK FOR SUBSEQUENT TWO DAYS: No significant change.”

Looks like they are expecting rainfall today as well

  12. @ Novak,

My Observation in this Current Conditions:

In LPA process, the circular curve in near chennai coast, so we can’t expect clouds from west or north west.

We can expect raining clouds / TS only from East, North East and very rarely from North.

  13. @PJ and Cheeka

This is the 1000th time I’m saying, don’t trust VVP for movement. It is only for NEM purposes and locating systems and wind intensity. Trust your own eyes for movement. If you can’t locate the storms, use the radar. The last 3 frames in radar are showing winds changing from NNE in the coast to N to S, but it still NE to SW in areas 75 km away from coast

  14. New contest for today. Same conditions

    It will rain
