  12. Across the world, one million people commit suicide every year. Now, a simple blood test that looks for enhanced expression of a few genes can quite accurately identify people who are at great risk of committing suicide.

Since people planning to commit suicide do not always share their intentions with others, a reliable tool that can “assess and track changes in suicide risk” would go a long way in preventing such deaths.

A team led by Prof. Alexander Niculescu from Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis has found that enhanced expression of four genes can indicate a person’s inclination to commit suicide.

  13. GAS DISCOVERED IN CAUVERY BASIN:

NEW DELHI: Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) and its partner BP plc on Friday announced a new gas condensate discovery off the east coast in the Cauvery basin.

The discovery, in the deepwater block CY-DWN-2001/2 (CYD5), is situated 62 kilometers from the coast in the Cauvery Basin and is the second gas discovery in the block, the companies said in a statement.

RIL is the operator of the block with 70 per cent interest and BP has a 30 per cent share.

“Well CYIII-D5-S1 was drilled in a water depth of 1,743 meters, to a total depth of 5,731 meters, with the primary objective of exploring Mesozoic-aged reservoirs.

“Preliminary evaluation of well data and fluid samples indicated presence of gas condensate in the reservoir interval with a gross column of 143 meters,” it said.

The well reached its total depth in early August and RIL has conducted drill stem test (DST) to evaluate the potential of the discovery.

“The well which had the initial reservoir pressure of 8,000 psi flowed gas at the rate of 35.2 million standard cubic feet per day with condensate,” the statement said.

The government and Directorate General of Hydrocarbons have been notified of the discovery, which has been named D-56.

  20. @ parthasri, As per jon’s comments a low is likely to form in Central bay around 26th. Will that happen ?

If that happens can we expect some decent rainfall for Coastal TN ?

      • Is he telling this prediction with IMD GFS model or prevailing weather conditions since i saw one comment some days back that another low will be forming around 26th-28th Aug after the current one ( It has crossed the land ) ?
