    @ Temple travel, according to the specs 60 feet should not be a problem. But by 300 feet they mean without any interference. So not too sure. Can you let me know how many floors is your building?

    @Velayudham, you need an open area (terrace is only place we can find in Chennai these days) to fix the rain gauge. You might need to do some drilling to fix it securely, so that it can withstand out cyclones.

    @KAR, can I order urs?

  9. @Ashwinds,

    By vital I meant no rain for a few days is good. The roadwork outside my house is never ending. They dug my area 3 weeks ago and still not completed due to rains. For the past 3 days cannot take my car out as well, its stuck inside my house.

    Hopefully with the dry spell they can complete the laying of new cables and laying new roads. I know the 2nd part will remain only a unfulfilled wish until next year atleast.

  20. Templetravel,

    I have sent you a mail, please check. Regarding the distance, I am not 100% sure. It might work, might not. Its your call. Also depends on house to house.

      • what service? Its use and throw.
        Basically as these run on batteries there is no problem with voltage fluctuations. It should easily last minimum of 3 years. You might need battery replacement every 6 months or so.

        Rain gauge and main unit uses 2 AA each
        temp sensor uses 2 AAA

  28. @partha sir

    You have any relatives in US/ planning to go there somehow? If you go there, get ambient weather. It’s like $150 which is around rs.7000 and it has everything. Only thing is, life is around 2-3 years

  29. Partha sir, just wait for 3-4 weeks and you’ll start feeling jealous of the interior rainfalls! ūüėÄ

    • Chennai will also get very good rainfall, but nothing compared to the 25-35 cm in interiors.

      Last september, namakkal got 39 cm

  30. No matter what rg you get, in a case of a severe thunderstorm with either strong winds/ very heavy rains, the rg will underestimate it.

  31. @kea

    I found a source to get replacement for ambient weather parts! I’m getting a new rg, so I might buy davis in the next 1-2 years!
