Normal date is October 10, +/- 10 days. It is unlikely to strike before October 20th as the withdrawal of SWM is yet to begin. Average time between start of withdrawal and onset of NEM is around 30-35 days.

No.not at all..I wnt agree wit tis…i remember, last year on oct 24 imd was saying swm is yet to withdraw 4m south peninsular region.but wat happened was our monsoon striked 24 hrs aftr imd statement……
30 days after start of withdrawal process.
In the peninsular region, withdrawal of SWM and onset of NEM is simultaneous.
The IMD report normally goes like this –
” South West Monsoon has withdrawn over southern peninsula and North est monsoon has commenced over Tamilnadu, Kerala and adjoining areas of A.P and Karnataka”
It wil start 2 withdraw 4m Northwest aftr sep 15 nly aftr anticyclone n lacking moisture in air..
only 20 days to go for nem 2012 😉
Normal date itself is Oct 10th. How can it be 20 days then?
Okay any rain that occurs in October is counted in NEM
Very hot outside..thundery violence may erupt again today evening in Chennai..if not today, then definitely tomorrow’s match will also be abandoned
lot of convection today
Drizzling here at the rate of 1 drop per minute
Maybe its sweat
lol ,no 1 drop per minute and the drops evaporated as soon as they hit the ground, but metsite says highest temperature is only 30.4 C
Website is stuck at 8 am
Stopped now.
Cola is not forecasting any significant rains for us for next 1 week
Remember what happened when COLA said 70 mm on 24th night?
All these cumulus can turn into giant thunderstorms like last year June 25th.
Let’s wait till evening
http://news.yahoo.com/meteoroids-change-atmospheres-earth-mars-venus-144839154.html
withdrawal of the southwest monsoon is erratic as seen from the past data. in 2005 the monsoon started to withdraw from extreme west rajasthan on 2nd sept. But it withdrew from rest of rajasthan only by 28th september and then it withdrew from the entire country by 15th Oct.
But in 2007 the withdrawal started only by 28th Sept but still it withdrew from most of india by 20th October.
There are a lot more factors i guess than just the withdrawal start date.
Sudarshan…walls forming over North!!!!
Yes, some TS there.Radar shows 2 small TS
Nice convection somewhere 50 km near SW.That fibrous look means that it is intensifying.
Only singlecell storms are forming. These dissipate within 45 minutes. We need multicell or supercell thunderstorms.
