    • Yes. I was in delta a couple of weeks back. Absoloutel yellow and brown everywhere…dry to the hilt and little rains and Kaveri water.

Today in major holy spots, borewells will rule the roost for the name sake celebration. Incidentally the foto for my profile is Kaveri in full flow at Thiruvaiyaru

  5. The Satellite image animation from the start of summer explains the reason for Drought and SWM failure so far….how many of u agree?

    1) Development of unnecessary cloud masses in north/central bay daily drifting towards land containing only high, useless, dense non-precipitating cirrus clouds

    2) Continuous movement of useless bay clouds from east to west or NE to SW

    3) Complete failure of development of white pockets/dots along western ghats and movement towards east which should be a regular phenomenon during SWM

  6. Does anyone know of any remedies for dengue??? My brother has it, already taken 10 units of single donor platelets, taking papaya leaf juice, platelet count is still dropping..

    • dengue has no specific treatment.Usually the platelet count starts improving by the fifth day of illness.Platelet transfusion is required if platelet falls below 10000

    • projecting him as the next pm sorry he may be good in developing his state but he is poor in maintaining his states communal conflicts he killed so many people

  15. Weak MJO is spoiler for southern India (Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu)
    —————————————–
Kerala is worst among all southern states. It is only going to get worse, the dry phase of MJO has set in and will last till 15-20th of August.

I am watching the monsoon behavior wrt to MJO from June and till now the monsoon has swung based on MJO. So wait for the third week of August of Good rains in the Southern peninsula.

    http://envam1.env.uea.ac.uk/mjo_forecast.html

Further, the lack of Monsoon depressions in 2012. The Bay wing SST is also not warm enough….let the expert in our blog answer this…

  16. Nagara in Karnataka records 746 mm rainfall in 2 days

Nagara located in Hosanagara Taluk in Shimoga District in Karnataka recorded 746 mm rainfall in 48 hrs. Hulikal, the king of South India is located just 15kms from Nagara. 17. more than 50 mm forecasted by Cola upto Aug 14th for Chennai

    As usual foreca not interested

WU forecasts 45 mm until 11th August

By the end of this week, Foreca could become the most reliable forecast for Chennai or the opposite.

  18. Rains in the western ghats atlast.

Alamatti dam on Krishna fast filling up.

In Kaveri belt, Harangi is full, huge inflows into Hemavathi (Heavy rains in Sakleshpura feeds into Hemavathi dam). Surplus from Hemavathi and Harangi flow into KRS.

Critical for inflows into Mettur is Kabini dam filling up and surplus will flow into Mettur…and we need heavy rains badly in Wyanad.

  19. Third consecutive day of moderate rains around Chennai. The rainfall in mm ending 8.30 am on 06.08.2012 are as follows –

    Redhills – 5
    Ennore – 3
    Chembarbakkam – 3

  20. Double whammy for NI Karnataka… Declared a drought area and drought conditions still continue, However, towns and villages near the rivers are starting to get washed away after copious rainfall in maharashtra, rivers are full, and belgaum district has already declared a flood alert.

    • It’d be interesting to compare the SWM from last year with this one.

Anyway – today looks like a normal May/June day with no signs of clouds and very little breeze and already past 30.

  21. Rainfall around Chennai region ending 8.30 am on 08.08.2012

  23. All the metrowater lakes are going to get good inflow from today’s rains easily one of the best during this years swm.

      • no idea, i think its highly impossible to predict the exact rainfall amount from a tstorm

      • Not predicting quantity is as Deficiency and it cant be a great model ….you vouched for Foreca…myself for Cola.

Both has its positives and negatives

And regarding this week rainfall foreca failed miserably.

I have seen Foreca predict 100 mm rainfall for Chennai previously

Cola hardly predicted 5 mm rainfall after July 25th. And regarding past week it predicted 5-10 mm rainfall daily. Even though it did not rain in nugambakkam…..it rained around the city everyday lastweek

If you are aware, Cola coordinates for prediction is not Nunga specific.

      • what is the use of model when it cannot quantify….its of no use to anyone….

Foreca will say 90% chance of rain and will show 1 mm rainfall

Cola is much better in that aspect.

  24. hi how are you all????????scorching days started again in vijayawada with temperatures soaring to around 36 degrees and horrible humidity.in 2011 there was not even a rainfall for more than a hour in vijayawada and north east monsoon failure in andhra made things horrible.but till now 2012 is better and i saw many rainy days.but seems like its horrible in chennai.dont worry u will start receiving rains atleast from october as i have observed many systems making landfall in andhra especially in october and november.so those systems may bring rain to chennai.

  25. Rainfall in mm ending 8.30 am on 09.08.2012
