  1. Balaji sends CSK to champions league.

KKR’s chennai recruit gave away 26 runs in final over to help CSK into the champions league. Win or lose tomorrow, CSK will still play the champions league.

Either that or it was a masterstroke from captain Gambhir. He wants to play MI is the semis, who seem to be the weakest team, thus avoiding a clash with the inform RCB.

  2. S.east ind ocean wich is a triggering factor for swm in bay is slowly picking up……its alrdy late for andaman, on may 27th ,monsoon may start with a bang for andaman with system in bay ….

  3. Bangalore 31 , Chennai 39 – 12:45 PM 24-May.

Kea , your temperature readings seem to be consistently higher than what is recorded at IMD.

    • Its very cloudy in bangalore. I can see thick clouds to the west and south. Infact for the last 5 minutes, I can hear thunder from the west as well. Appears like there might be some rain. Its windless and stiff.

  4. Most forecast model predicting tropical storm in arabian sea in the 1st week of june. Some are expecting it to move towards maharashtra-gujarat coast & others towards oman. If it move towards oman then it will halt monsoon progress northward & we might get poor rain for 10 days after that. The picture will be clearer in next week a so. And no low is forecasted for bay till 8th june

  5. @keaweather, Are u underestimating mumbai indians. Never ever write off any mumbai team. Hopefully we meet csk in final & beat u in yr home ground. Best of luck for tonight match. :))) CHEERS

  6. As predicted accurately, csk storms into finale… Msd ‘s double dhamaka is alive, one is the World cup and the other is ipl 4….. Tis is not a 1st time, its a 3rd time to reach final.no other team hav done it…so certainly csk awarded the best domestic cricket team.. Chennai superkings ku whistle eh podu.

  7. Kea, your weather desktop reflects 33.8 degrees cel now, whereas, the actual temperature is 37 deg cel in both foreca and accuweather…..

    Why is this difference occurring?

  8. Dear All,

This is a right weather to kindly thunderstorm activity by evening. The mix of heat and humidity to be in right proportion coupled with sea breeze in the evening for devlopement of thunderclouds. We can hope for a shower or two by evening. let us see.

In the meanwhile the latest weather satellite reveals the monsoon clouds developing over south of srilanka. There is also a possibility of low pressure formation in south central bay and heads towards south andhra coast before 30th of may.

    let us see.

  9. KarthikNarayan , actually chennai is worse than Rentachintala due to humidity. A cheap 200W aircooler is sufficient in Rentachintala to cool your house to 30. In Chennai you need expensive 1.5KW airconditioner.

  10. Kea, y u rolled back ur post overnight ?? Tat was completely upside down with ur prediction ..atlast,csk won… Tat is 20-20..anythng can happen at a matter of second.

  11. I’m in tirupattur since may 18….and its raining/poring almost everyday….sterday evening it shud have got ariund 30mm…..n today at 5 o clock heavy rain again…raining everyday!!….min temps very pleassant at 22-24….max temps blwoing hot n cold varying btw 32-38 sicne i came!!….got some awesome pics and videos of rain and Gale wich i’ll upload as soon as i’m in chennai!!….but i’m fearing the heat ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  12. light to moderate rainfall in bangalore since the evening… not too heavy, but plenty of lightning and thunder… 2 deaths already confirmed due to lightning in the past 3 days in bangalore.. very rare.. cos the taller buildings usually receive the brunt of bangalore’s pre monsson lightning strikes

  13. Dear KEA.

50 to 60 KMS north east of chennai there were heavy showers as reflected in radar.

a mild cyclonic circulation lies close to chennai coast. we can keep track of radar for some time, as there are chances the cloud cover may cover chennai from bay to get few showers before noon.

  14. Mani: Ya..u r in the xtreme N.tamil nadu coastal border..u must feel tat pleasant weather…here too a nice cool breeze with full cloudy weather ,luks like NEM….

  15. Kea,even v can say ,no more 37 ., swm has almost entered into our waters…stil it have to strike the land…now in coming days, all monsoon clouds will rush up and concentrate only on peninsular india,. there wil b rain in most parts with part time sunny weather…so keep ur temp 40 dream away..

    • In 2005 & 2009, we crossed 40, 14 times in June
In 2007 and 2008, we crossed once
      Twice in 2006

      only exception is 2010

In 2001, we have 13 days over 39, 5 of them over 40.

2001, 2005 and 2009 we had good NEM’s and a super hot summer. Is 2013 next?

  16. It’s almost 2.30 now in the afternoon. The temperature in garden city is 30 degrees and 31 degrees in Chennai!

Yet another significant change is the wind direction in Chennai. It has changed from WNW to ESE today.

Does the sudden change in wind direction suggest anything? Experts comments please?

  17. Mr. Guru.

Right from morning chennai is thickly overcast. and there were showers in open bay of bengal about 100 KMS away from coast. I think there is an upper air cyclonic circulation lies close to north tamil nadu and south andhra coast.

we might expect few drizzling at chennai by late evening or night. let us hope a low pressure which would not allow the max. to cross 37 c for another 2 weeks time. always first half of june is always hot in chennai due to westery winds.

  18. That’s true ss. Let’s hope for a big escape during the first week of June. If it doesn’t rain we will roasted and toasted in the searing heat that would be even worse than the peak “agni natchathiram” period during May.

  19. Nice to see you online Jon. What is your prediction for Chennai during the first half of June? Are you in sync with what kea has to say or would like to differ from kea’s prediction.

  20. @guru, i think temp wont cross 37 during the 1st week of june since s monsoon expected to set in during tat period.some showers can be expected in coming days, hope we catch a good one tonight or tomo.

  21. humidity in bangalore is killing, sweating inside the house with the fan on full speed… something is going to change soon… also noticed winds in bangalore change from west-north west to east south east… not exactly monsoon winds yet, need to wait for a couple of days more i guess

The guidelines are followed for declaring the onset of monsoon over Kerala.

CRITERIA:- If after 10th May, 60% of the available 14 stations enlisted, viz. Minicoy, Amini, Thiruvananthapuram, Punalur, Kollam, Allapuzha, Kottayam, Kochi, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Thalassery, Kannur, Kasargode and Mangalore report rainfall of 2.5 mm or more for two consecutive days, the onset over Kerala be declared on the 2nd day, provided the following criteria are also in concurrence.

CRITERIA:- Depth of westerlies should be maintained upto 600 hPa, in the box equator to Lat. 10ยบN and Long. 55 ยบE to 80ยบE. The zonal wind speed over the area bounded by Lat. 5-10ยบN, Long. 70-80ยบE should be of the order of 15 ? 20 Kts. at 925 hPa. The source of data can be RSMC wind analysis/satellite derived winds.

CRITERIA:- INSAT derived OLR value should be below 200 wm-2 in the box confined by Lat. 5-10ยบN and Long. 70- 75ยบE.
    Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM)
Southwest monsoon normally sets in over Kerala around 1st June. It advances northwards, usually in surges, and covers the entire country around 15th July. The NLM is the northern most limit of monsoon upto which it has advanced on any given day.

  23. Jon, kea’s predictions are coming true. Today the mercury shot up like rapid fire and scaled 38 degrees sharp at 12 noon. Now the temperature is steadily hovering around 39 deg?

What happened to the SW monsoon?

  24. Why is this difference in temperature readings in kea’s desktop and the current temp that is reflected in foreca and accuweather pls? Which one is correct Jon?

  25. guru, kea readings are 2-3 deg above imd’s.cant figure out which one is right.still my predictions didnt go wrong till now ๐Ÿ™‚

  26. Jon – Yup, about your predictions you mean to say that we will not have hot days in June when the mercury seamlessly still attempts to touch the roaring 40’s?

When can we expect the SWM to set in? Will we have any reprieve from the searing heat once SWM sets in?

  27. Kea , Any response to Jon and Guru regarding your temperature readings? Maybe your thermometer requires a little tap to reset?

  28. @sel, from where u r getting these info’s?bay looks calm dont expect anything atleast for another week ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
