Jon – no no, not good. let’s have a little bit of not hot weather now. Anyway no cyclones come to Chennai – so we end up suffering the heat while other places get the cyclone
This is to inform our blog members that Kea WordPress blog will be shutdown for Annual maintenance activity. Users will not be able to access the blog
from Jan 05,2012 till April 05, 2012. However, regular updates on fog and dry weather in Chennai will be available on our FB page.
Meet you all in April..the month of Pre-monsoon cyclone.
according to wikipedia – The original expanse of the marsh, estimated on the basis of the Survey of India toposheet of 1972 and aerial photographs (Corona) of 1965 was about 5,500 hectares (14,000 acres), which has shrunk to about 600 hectares (1,500 acres).
Martin– You are spot on..I pass this place atleast once a fortnight and have been steadily seeing the place decline in land area..infact there was a massive fire a few months back which killed birds and huge area was destroyed..I also understand that there was no efforts to contain the fire and it was left to extinguish on its own!Such apathy..
dashman, isn’t this a bit out of place. btw great scores by this indian attack. its not done yet. 1 or 2 more sessions of pain still ahead before they can rest.
really sad what is happening to pallikaranai marshlands.. what was once a haven for migratory birds and bird watchers alike is today being eaten up by velachery station on one side.. corporation waste dump on one side.. pallikaranai area itself and thuraipakkam on the other, thangavelu engineering college itself occupied many many acres of the pallikaranai marsh.. what was once an area of over 90 sq kms has today been reduced to less than 40 sq kms of which only 3.17 sq kms is a reserve forest and protected by the Tambaram range of the Forest department. something needs to be done and soon or we could lose one of the last surviving eco systems in south india
Who is Pattinson? 4 wickets here out of 6. 7 in the previous test. Already 24 wickets in only his 4 th test. Averaging 14.75 and he is dominating cricket
Pattinson appears to be a good bowler in Aussie pitches. Gets a lot of bounce. But let him come to sub continent. Once the bounce is lacking he would be hit through the line. Measure of one bowling ability should not be done when bowling to useless Indian batsmen on bouncy wickets.
Hmmmm…..appears like dravid, gauti , Kohli and coach are going to be dropped after this series.
Dravid : His end is very near now. At 38+ out of form meameans quick retirement.
Gauti: Totally out of form.
Kohli: 0 technique on bouncy wicket
Coach: Totally useless. Has not shown any contribution.
thnk you jon,
Unfortunately all the long range forecasts for this year shows below avg rainfall and a severe drought for southern peninsula. Dec cyclone is not good for the up coming year. The El-Nino effect to be back in the later part of the year during our monsoon season. I dont want to threaten any of our bloggers, but we need to wait for the long range forcast of IMD till may this year.
I have a specific question for you, Could you just brief me on 1997 weather in chennai, particularly in rainfall. plz provide me with summary statistics.
Ya..i remember…it was the year all the media and newspapers informed the first record rainfall for NEM season. .for chennai. I think Meena scored 154 or 157 cms….tat season. Anyways…it was wonderful to enjoy those rains.. the year 1996 was also very wet followed by 1997..two consecutive years of fabulous rainfall… and we had to wait till 2005 …for yet another record…tat was history
When was the last time SWM was so close to NWM? and what was its impact on the next yrs weather. With The El-Nino coming into effect in the later part of the year, I was worried. was there any instance in the past where both SWM and NWM are very close and with a good rainfall in the following year.
Except central and west-central chennai, others had a Normal SWM…That is what makes Chemb, nunga and meena rainiest this year in taht order…..Parts of North chennai has sufffered below normal rainfall!
Actually, i predicted it for South Chennai..but got it right for Nunga..anyway happy that AP got more than what i had predicted..moreover very glad that thunder has been beaten comprehensively
Kea, plz give me an award..plz include my name in ur winner’s list..plz declare me as the winner in ur home page of wordpress, metsite and FB in a bold scrolling text..
daily thanthi:
rain becos of thane low in arb sea..
dhinamalar:
chance for heavy rain all along tn coast as new low pressure formed in bay
nalla kelapuranga ya beethi ya
Cyclone thane merged in to arabian sea and it still have some pull effect from east. east and south easterly winds are strong over chennai and adjoining andhra pradesh which gives occasional heavy showers particularly for south andhra which badly need some rains. Up to machilipatnam some showers were noticed in radar.
chennai might get a heavy shower by evening as radar picks up quite a few red lines over south east of chennai which can reach city in another couple of hours.
Already it looks like some circulation is possible in another 24 hours just east of srilanka by 1000 KMS. to keep track this.
What surprise is there,? Rain will follow the cyclone due to pull effect and will continue for the day, as radar picks up more showers south east of Chennai.

98 mm if you dont include 1st and 2nd rains. 102 mm if you include both.
Dashman predicted 77-102. He wins it either way.

The range always should be +/- 5mm you cannot have 30 mm range between 77-102. The accuracy level should be max 5mm
