already some disturbance is notice in south andaman sea very close to malay peninsula.
still bay of bengal very close to chennai coast can bring rain bearing clouds to chennai. if it fails this night, then we have to wait for frsh system.
Dear Weather Experts, So far i could predict the model… There is no chance of rains for chennai anymore.. However, there are chances of a Tropical storm expected near andaman somewhere during next week and would move towards Andhra coast.. Even during that period, very little showers are expected at chennai… You may expect this system coming close to Andhra coast somewhere durign 6th Dec… What you experts think ?
and recently there is an interesting reason responsible for much heat in vjwada and here in vjwada there is a thermal power station which release many CFC’S and those CFC’S doesnt allow the sunlight to reflect back into atmosphere and thus always heat content is present in air of vjwada responsible for still heat and thats why 40 degrees is minimum for us and i thiink even heat in chennai might be due to some thermal power station(IS IT THERE?) or some other big source of CFC’S or might be due to its presence on thermal equator.i am sure chennai city will receive some good showers tonight after observing the satellite imagery.

The line which IMD states “ridge line passes 15n” is similar to outer band of cyclone.
just like outer band of cyclone ,the line is outer band of high pressure.
This year the NEM for chennai looks like gonna be total failure..
I had this doubts even at the beginning as the Monsoon set in very late.
For chennai usually NEM setting in early is beneficial as november progresses the Monsoon shifts focus more to the southern areas only.
The monsoon trough now lies in south west bay, south arabian sea and extends upto deigo garcia. This monsoon trough has spawned 3 disturbance.First one now lies over arabian , extreme south peninsula extending till southwest bay , the other one in south east indian ocean and is likely to intensify into a tropical storm if it could move away from very high shear in coming days and this will track towards western australia , third one is pretty close to second one near diego garcia.Since the trough has extended furthur southward till diego garcia .There are high possibility of active cyclogenesis in south indian ocean. This will be the case for few more months in south indian ocean.
Dear Weather experts, It will be good if you guys can share how do you predict rain.. Though i do lot of online research on weather, i could not understand the sudden changes in the movement of clouds or winds…
It is really boring….. No rains !! clouds cheating us !! i havent seen roads blogged with rain water…. Doesnt looks like NEM…. Kea , Can you predict some cyclone in Dec atleast ?
Veeranam is now receiving a massive 7000 cusecs inflow due to torrential rains (as pointed out earlier by K.N. (about 222 mm))
The total capacity of Veeranam is just around 1 TMC. So imagine with such a inflow even if it is bone dry just 2 days are enough to fill it up to the brim.
Unfortunately it is already full last week itself. So entire water is now diverted to sea.
Mettur is also having a chance of surplusing by early next week if present inflow persists. Cauvery is already carrying flood waters from rains downstream of Mettur and if mettur dam is filled, it will further worsen the flood situation downstream.
Most other dams also face a similar situation now except Bhavani sagar and dams in extreme south.
This NEM is proving to be a surplus one for entire TN except for us.
” I anticipate this movement cloud back to sea may be due to pressure disturbance and ridge over north near nellore and high pressure in central india”
suresh, ridge and high pressure are all the same. They are not different .you can refer them with same name.
Just cat on the wall position. the movement of ridge given a slight hope as still lot of clouds in bay. U notice for the past few hours low clouds are coming from east. even the latest radar readings indicate clouds within the vicinity of 30 KMS from chennai. let us wait for our turn – may be late evening. there is no clear blue skies, which give me some hopes for the systme to keep it live.
after 3 days, finally ridge has moved north to 15 North giving hopes for formation of low pressure close to chennai coast. already good cloud mass moved from down south to north coastal tamil nadu stretching from cuddalore to nellore.
i think present indications chennai would get some useful showers, as the higher pressure area moves up north.
I’m new to this blog and its nice to know that there are so many rain enthusiastics!!
from my part, here at Ennore, its just cloudy since this morning.
wish good rains for chennai
your observations 100 per cent correct. the latest satellite picture indicates a big cloud mass now seen over about 200 KMS east of cuddalore. Only the smaller broken portion inland. In fact extreme south tamil nadu absolutely no rains from yesterday midnight.
I anticipate this movement cloud back to sea may be due to pressure disturbance and ridge over north near nellore and high pressure in central india. However the chances of rebuilding of clouds above cuddalore still not ruled out, as lot of moisture now in open sea which has the ability to regain in strength.
let us keep track as this is interesting. still chennai has a greater chance to get heavy spells once the clouds gone back to sea gets its fuel back on track towards north west.
for another 3 or 4 days i think places down cuddalore will be totally dry.
I have not heard any big rains from delta or any other districts from this morning ( from 9 AM) Though there were some dirzzling in inland, as most of the clouds reentered the sea. Now we have to keep track of open sea instead of inland.
But we could see some rains in kalpakkam/mahabalipuram pocket time and again.
I would be getting 11. 30 AM satellite picture and then post my view.
I already posted. it is likely to weaken in west pacific itself.
now we have to look for a new system near andaman where sst is high.
it looks like today will be totally overcast unless otherwise the rain bearing clouds from south east move towards chennai which i think remote, as fo rth e past 2 days, it maintains the same trend not moving beyond kalpakkam.
yes. you are right. in all other options, there is not even an indication. so when radar generates diagram, it had also on its own creat some thick blue dots on top of it in some modules. Any way thanks for your valuable points KEA.
Still i feel chennai would get fair quota of rain from this system, as satellite picture continues to be encouraging. in fact compared to yesterday evening, today is far better. Please look in to dundee satellite pictures which is reliable, but it only updates every 3 or 6 hours.
those lines are nothing. I think its just an error on the radar.
Meanwhile I think this is as close as it will get, the huge cloud mass moving 50 km south of CHennai. Places like Mahabilipuram will get lite rains, thats it. Nothing for CHennai.
Plan Position indicator ( Z) closed range. Access to IMD and see in dopper products. select chennai and closed range indicator which updates every 10 minutes.
I believe there is flood like situation in cuddalore, chidambaram, sirkazhi and karaikal.
there are lots of blue dots and lines in closed view radar up to 150 KMS north east of chennai. what it actually denotes. most of the times we can see, but not even drizzle. is it relate to cloudiness ?? even the leatest radar readings indicate good blue dotted lines east north east of chennai but showing no movement for the past one hour.
heavy rains still below kalpakkam and it maintains the same trend even today. but satellite pictures ( 5. 30 AM) reveals there is a clear cut north movement of cloud mass above nagapattinam. We have to wait till the actual rain belt touch us.
Most of the places south of kalpakkam up to cuddalore, karaikal received heavy showers till this morning.
Still the satellite picture is more encouraging. more than half of the thick cloud mass in open sea and the boundary extended up to nellore ongole. I think chennai would get its share of quota soon – today and tomorrow early morning.
Yesterday night there was a heavy down pour for 10 minutes but that did not picked up. let us see today.
Gud Morning all,
It rained all night and still continuing here in Kumbakonam. No sign of leaving off. Flooded everywhere and the paddy fields has been drowned entirely within this area.
Its raining raining raining in thiruvarur non-stop…it might be touch 15-20cms in today report.wat abt chennai guyz.still no rain…oly a chance f rain p:

ridge is a terminology normally called on sea surface and high pressure normally attributable to land. in any case both are same.
you see for the past 2 days the ridge was at 14 north juse close to nellore and today it has moved to 15 close to ongole.
probably that is the reason why chennai has received some showers last night.
any time we can get back rainbearing clouds from bay. that is my view on this.

KEA.
your observations 100 per cent correct. the latest satellite picture indicates a big cloud mass now seen over about 200 KMS east of cuddalore. Only the smaller broken portion inland. In fact extreme south tamil nadu absolutely no rains from yesterday midnight.
I anticipate this movement cloud back to sea may be due to pressure disturbance and ridge over north near nellore and high pressure in central india. However the chances of rebuilding of clouds above cuddalore still not ruled out, as lot of moisture now in open sea which has the ability to regain in strength.
let us keep track as this is interesting. still chennai has a greater chance to get heavy spells once the clouds gone back to sea gets its fuel back on track towards north west.
for another 3 or 4 days i think places down cuddalore will be totally dry.
what is your view on this.

KEA.

Suresh,
Today its different compared to previous 2 days. The clouds are not moving inland, but dissipitating over the sea itself.
Is it actually raining anywhere?
By: keaweather on November 27, 2010
at 11:17 am
guna,
I already posted. it is likely to weaken in west pacific itself.
now we have to look for a new system near andaman where sst is high.
it looks like today will be totally overcast unless otherwise the rain bearing clouds from south east move towards chennai which i think remote, as fo rth e past 2 days, it maintains the same trend not moving beyond kalpakkam.

yes. you are right. in all other options, there is not even an indication. so when radar generates diagram, it had also on its own creat some thick blue dots on top of it in some modules.

Suresh,
those lines are nothing.

I believe there is flood like situation in cuddalore, chidambaram, sirkazhi and karaikal.
chennai dry like situation.

if any one know this pl. clarify.
there are lots of blue dots and lines in closed view radar up to 150 KMS north east of chennai. what it actually denotes. most of the times we can see, but not even drizzle. is it relate to cloudiness ?? even the leatest radar readings indicate good blue dotted lines east north east of chennai but showing no movement for the past one hour.

heavy rains still below kalpakkam and it maintains the same trend even today. but satellite pictures ( 5. 30 AM) reveals there is a clear cut north movement of cloud mass above nagapattinam. We have to wait till the actual rain belt touch us.
Most of the places south of kalpakkam up to cuddalore, karaikal received heavy showers till this morning.

KEA.
