Quick point on prediction / forecast:
The “forecasts” in this site are based on radar observations / sat pics – which IMHO are not adequate parameters. There are other parameters like vertical vorticity, current pressure charts, and wind movements -not just in Madras / but for the region- which going into making a reasonable forecast. A lot of these parameters are not available in public domain to work out a forecast.
Given that this is an ameteur forum, and lot of us are learning the wily ways of weather…so the “forecasts” in this forum, come with a huge caveat clause.

Hi, I am Sridharan. I am a regular watcher of KEA. Thanks for everybody’s anxious wait for heavy downpour or atleast heavy drizzles. I am also eagerly waiting to see all our roads get waterlogged by nonstop rains from NEM. But it never seem to happen. Only on the morning of October 20, 2010 it happened. Though we have modern gadgets on scientific analysis, predictions etc about rain,it seems to avoid Chennai this monsoon. There is a very old saying in Tamil “KARNAANUKU PIRAKU KODAIYUM ILLAI, KARTHIGAIKU (DEEPAM) PIRUAKU KODAIUM ILLAI”. Probably this may come true as far as chennai is concerned.

@ selcyclone : at this point I cannot answer your question, as I am watching a LLCC in cusp of west Philippine sea and Gulf of Thailand! If the LLCC moves as I thought to the west, then if the ridge and wind shears permit, we may have a bang ! But after that, I don’t see any reason for new strong systems!
Also, earth is closing on to Sun to complete a revolution! We being close to Equator will see change in ocean currents to wards the south pole also, next month sun will start rising up again towards us, hence, that will start affecting the ocean heat! So, it is meagre chance of well marked systems after 20th December as southern solstice closes in on 21st December 2010.

What is your prediction for tonight. taking into consideration of favourable satellite picture, i hope there could be moderate showers for chennai. i anticiate rainfall of at least 2 centimeters till 5.30 AM tomorrow mng. It is unfortunate radar continues to pick up rains only kalpakkam and below. for the past 3 hours there wre contineous showers in cuddalore, kumbakonam and nearby places. of course there were no significant rains below trichy. it gives an indication the system with core of clouds slightly shifted north.
but still it is not certain whether we could get rains tonight.
could be one more disappointment night unless otherwise clouds move swiftly to north from cuddalore. even now places close to kalpakkam battered by showers.

Pudukkottai,Tiruvallur,Chennai,Karaikal and nagapattinam are the only distrcits in deficient category from this NEM till now
……Ironically even kanchi distict has got normal rainfall …Courtesy – Chengalpet,Kanchipuram,Uthiramerur,Mahabalipuram and Cheyyur!

this cloud mass which is in the pocket of pondi to salem moving north…….the present cloud mass was over near kanyakumari and this morning it was in madurai and delta districts and it was enlarged to salem to pondi lets see if it comes to chennai… wat does it do?
